The Art of Horticulture

Gardening is a fascinating subject to me! Mainly because I am absolutely terrible at it. My mother, aunts, and my sister have always had a knack for this green thumb business. I, on the other hand, have embraced my black thumb status and have grown an appreciation for those that can grow anything! This weekend I learned all about organic farming at Firefly Hills Farm.

Sarah, the owner and operator of Firefly Hills Farm, gave me the grand tour of their farm. By the looks of it you wouldn't believe that this is the first year. Even though she mainly has been focusing on test beds, she has seen great success with her experiments. From watermelons to tomatoes to beans to leeks to flower, Sarah has the talent to grow just about anything. All of which are grown pesticide or chemical free. Here are some of the pictures from my trip to her farm!

One perfect tomato!

Beautiful Dahlia flower.

The beginnings of a watermelon!

Kidney Beans and Tomatillos

Blackberries are almost ripe for pickin'! The next step in the process is canning.
